Documentation / Engineering evidence

From deterministic simulation to review-ready evidence.

Use one persistent Studio action to generate a report locally from the exact active completed record.

Half-Car Transient Explore reports

Completed Half-Car sweeps include the baseline configuration, parameter range and ordered values, neutral candidate metric deltas, selected candidate response overlays and model/solver provenance. Reports consume completed evidence only; exporting does not run physics. See Half-Car Transient Explore.

Half-Car Transient Study reports

The same persistent Engineering Report action exports completed half-car evidence: model identity, all physical parameters, both explicit axle roads, initial state, neutral metrics, five engineering plots, provenance and limitations. Pitch display uses degrees; CSV retains radians and all other SI channels. Projects remain definition-only and require rerun after import.

One completed record, one coherent report

The same Engineering Report action remains visible in every workspace. It becomes available after VehicleLab has an authoritative completed StudyRunRecord, FrequencyStudyRecord, ComparisonRecord, FrequencyComparisonRecord, or SweepRecord. The browser builds a structuredvehiclelab.report.v1 model, renders professional plots from its stored arrays, lays out an A4 PDF, and downloads it locally. No report content is sent to a backend.

If inputs are edited afterward, the visible completed record remains immutable and the Studio marks the last completed evidence as stale. A report exported before that rerun describes the visible completed configuration; it never combines old results with edited-but-unrun simulation inputs. Restoring the exact completed definition makes the report current again without rerunning in every workspace.

What each report contains

Study

Project objective and notes, exact selected-model configuration, road inputs, initial conditions, numerical setup, response metrics and plots, provenance, and limitations.

Compare

Baseline, Variant A, shared scenario, changed physical parameters, stored neutral metric deltas, model-specific overlay plots, provenance, and limitations.

Frequency Study

Selected-model parameters, normalized harmonic definition, logarithmic range, point count, sampled response peaks, frequency plots, direct-solver provenance, and explicit steady-state and physical-correlation limitations.

Frequency Compare

Baseline and Variant A parameters, one exact shared logarithmic grid, changed parameters, absolute and relative interior-peak shifts with explicit response units, model-specific solid/dashed overlays, frequency-solver provenance, and steady-state limitations. Missing peaks are identified as absent from the analyzed range.

Explore

Sweep range, candidate count and ordering, deterministic candidate table, and an optional selected candidate. Quarter-Car reports include four parameter-response plots and an acceleration/travel trade-off. Half-Car reports include four metric plots and four Baseline/selected-candidate response overlays.

Reliable plot architecture

uPlot remains the responsive interactive chart. PNG and PDF figures use a separate deterministic Canvas2D renderer driven by the same completed numerical arrays. The renderer draws axes, tick labels, units, grid, zero reference, legends, line styles, actual curves, logarithmic frequency axes, discrete Explore markers, and selected-candidate emphasis at 1600 × 1000.

Export never resimulates, resamples, smooths, normalizes, filters, or interpolates result values. Explore markers are discrete engineering evaluations; VehicleLab does not imply a continuous response surface or optimum.

Artifact responsibilities

ArtifactMeaning
Project JSONReproducible definition - what to run again.
CSVRaw numerical output - what was computed.
PNGProfessional engineering figure from authoritative arrays.
PDFReview-ready evidence with context, results, provenance, and boundaries.

Project schema vehiclelab.project.v1 remains definition-only. Reports have the independent vehiclelab.report.v1 identity. Product release 1.1.1 does not change the independent model, solver, or evidence identities.

Report filenames follow the active evidence source: <project>-study-engineering-report.pdf, <project>-frequency-study-engineering-report.pdf, <project>-explore-engineering-report.pdf, <project>-transient-compare-engineering-report.pdf, or <project>-frequency-compare-engineering-report.pdf.

Evidence boundary

A report is not an engineering recommendation.

VehicleLab reports configuration and deterministic evidence neutrally. It does not identify a winner, certify a design, claim OEM approval, imply production-vehicle correlation, or turn the Zhao numerical reproduction into physical validation. Zhao qualification is limited to matching transient evidence; Frequency Study and Frequency Compare remain independent VehicleLab analyses and never carry Zhao context.

Half-Car Frequency Study

Half-Car Frequency Study is available in Study → Half Car → Frequency. Transient response describes a road event over time; frequency response describes steady-state harmonic motion across frequency. The validated 4-DOF model retains nine complex responses with explicit rear-road delay and front-road normalization. Completed CSV, PNG and PDF exports preserve evidence; imported projects require rerunning.

Half-Car Frequency Compare

Study → Half Car → Frequency → Compare a design change. Baseline and Variant A use the same harmonic experiment, with explicit physical changes, complex evidence and completed CSV/PNG/PDF exports. Follow the Frequency Compare guide.
